Street Gig - This Sheer Power
Saturday 14th of August 2010
Cambridge, England: 15:00
Jo is on this year's X Factor, she got three yeses. She says a quick 'probably, I shouldn't be doing this', before launching into a bit of 'Hallelujah'.

I'm trying to transpose into G as I go along, and follow her cues, but it's hard not to get distracted by this sheer power in her voice, and all the little flourishes.

She comes back for another go when they leave The Place, and it's more of the same, powerful as ever, just a little more tipsy.

No-one can leave while she's singing, but boy it's loud. I tell her to step back from the mic, and I turn the guitar up, but it still keeps cutting out whenever she's really going for it.

Don't think I've busked this loud before, ever. We're probably pissing off Busker Danny down there, but what can you do when there's one of those moments. Hopefully, we can resume this sometime, or maybe record something. So good.

There's a big crowd here, I keep trying to tell everyone to move back a bit. If anyone wants to give me any cash, they can't actually reach the tin, but it's hard to be too angry. They just want to get up close and personal with the music.

Tom keeps asking for more David Bowie. I ask Tom if he's in the army, if he's a 'Major'. Oh how we laughed. On the plus Side, 'Ziggy Stardust' is finally starting to kick in for me after all these years.

Anyway, big shouts to Clare, Claire, Hen Debbie, Hen Becky, Birthday Jasmine, Tommy, X Factor Jo, Singing Beth, Russel, Adrian, Axel, Yanni, and Damek. And a big, big thankyou to nice Erica for passing around the tin without actually nicking any.
