The mountains are so beautiful lit up in glowing white, it's a privilege to drive through Austria. You wouldn't want to sleep here though, too cold. It's annoying low cloud crossing the border from Germany, then suddenly a big gap opens up and The View arrives. Fantastic.
You need a vignette to drive the Autobahn round here. I'm just going 150km so I'm avoiding them and driving on the national roads. Good job I've got GPS cause the signs keep trying to push me onto the A12.
Stop at Innsbruck for food supplies and cheap diesel, then head south and steadily upwards towards the Brenner Pass. All the little roads are closed, but the Brenner always stays open. It's a long vertical crawl til we hit the Italian border at the top.
Phew, we've made it. I suppose it's all gonna be nice and warm now...
